FAQ

Common questions about FOV.

A FOV calculator converts your field of view setting between different aspect ratios using arctangent math. It ensures your viewing angle stays consistent when you change monitors, switch resolutions, or move between games. Enter your current FOV and aspect ratio, select your target ratio, and get the exact equivalent value instantly.
Field of View is the angular extent of the game world visible on screen, measured in degrees. Higher FOV shows more of the scene and increases peripheral awareness. Lower FOV zooms in, making distant targets appear larger and easier to hit. Most competitive FPS players use 90–110° horizontal FOV as their sweet spot.
The math uses arctangent: first convert your hFOV to vFOV using vFOV = 2×arctan(tan(hFOV/2) ÷ aspectRatio), then solve for the new hFOV at the target ratio. The vertical FOV stays constant across different aspect ratios in most game engines. Our calculator handles all of this automatically — just enter your values.
Yes. Switching from 4:3 to 16:9 increases horizontal FOV significantly — a 90° hFOV on 4:3 becomes approximately 106.26° on 16:9. This is why CS2 players using 4:3 see a narrower view than 16:9 players running the same FOV number. Accurate conversion is essential for consistency across setups.
The competitive consensus is 90–110° horizontal FOV. CS2 pros typically use 4:3 stretched (90°) or ~106° on 16:9. Valorant is locked at 103° vertical. Apex players prefer 100–110°. Warzone players often push to 110–115° for open-map awareness. Visit the dedicated game calculator pages for game-specific guidance.
